About Us

Western Alberta is not defined by a single bouldering destination. Instead, it’s a scattered collection of unique climbing areas — from prairie erratics and forest blocks to alpine boulders and remote cliff bands. This diversity of geology and landscape is what makes bouldering here distinct. Climbers have been exploring these areas for over 50 years. Through decades of exploration and guidebook development, each generation has added to the story of climbing in this region. In 2020, the Western Alberta Bouldering Association (WABA) was formed to help support and connect this growing community, and to help guide the future of bouldering in the region.

Our Mission

WABA exists to support and grow the Western Alberta bouldering community. We work with land managers and stakeholders to maintain access, support responsible development, and care for established climbing areas. We also aim to strengthen the local community by creating opportunities for climbers to connect, share knowledge, and celebrate the sport. We aspire to host community events and gatherings that bring climbers together in the spirit of stewardship, learning, and fun.

Our Vision

A thriving, connected climbing community that respects and protects Western Alberta’s unique bouldering areas while continuing to explore and develop new ones responsibly.

Our Partners

We're grateful to the organizations and businesses that help make climbing more accessible across Western Alberta.
